This sounds very similar for two devices, industrial laser distance sensors and laser distance meters, right? Yes, they can both be used to measure distance, but they are fundamentally different. There will always be some misunderstandings. Let’s do a simple comparison.

1. Different functions and needs

Usually, industrial laser measurement sensors require secondary development, which can be serially connected with the device to obtain measurement range readings. At the same time, customers can also choose USB-to-ttl, USB adapter, RS232 or RS485 for initial sample testing.

For the laser rangefinder, we also call it a hand-held laser measuring instrument. As the name suggests, it is a portable measuring instrument. Usually, it has no secondary development function, it can only measure the distance, area, volume, Pythagorean, etc. of the object, and the measured distance reading is displayed on the screen.

2. Different fields of application

Industrial laser distance sensor: widely used in various industrial automation, agricultural automation, warehouse logistics, intelligent robots, cranes, collision avoidance and other fields. This is a laser sensor and it can be integrated with other devices.

Laser rangefinder: suitable for construction, engineering surveying and mapping, interior decoration, carpentry, door and window measurement, furniture installation, construction inspection, etc. Depending on its mini size, you can carry it in your pocket, in your tool kit, on your wrist, and more.
